Halberstadt CL.II and Hannover CL.II and CL.IIa were the first series produced attack aircraft. These "flying machine gun posts" (as the German propaganda described them) were able to destroy the best concealed enemy positions and decimate Entente infantry. To give them even more hitting power, the Halberstadts and Hannovers were combined in larger combat groups known as the Schlachtgruppen. Although the Halberstadt CL.II was designed as a light two-seater, it was also a dangerous opponent for allied fighters. Since its formation in December 1916, Bavarian SchustaSchlasta 27 b participated in major battles. Verdun, Arras, Flanders, Cambrai, and Operation Michael in 1918 are just some of them. This was one of the most interestingly decorated German ground support units in WWII.
